For the last seven years I have been involved with the closely
connected themes of refinement, purification and cleansing in relation to
fire. To this end I have been visiting a local iron casting foundry
in Edinburgh since 1996 when I was at the Leith School of Art. During my
visits to the foundry I have observed the operations of the working day,
as well as the human condition, drawing and making colour sketches. After
weeks of observational work, the themes of the refining fire and transformation
evolved into paintings. After years of absorbing this environment at a deeper
level, the paintings, which capture a freshness of vision, in line and colour,
have begun to emerge. |
